For me growing up, gender identity was determined by your genitalia, and will still be determined by those genitals as long God lends me breath no matter what society says because whether or not they wish to call x or y they were either born a girl or a boy, and they both have different roles and these different roles are confused in their given roles by whom they choose to be and not whom they were born to be.
According to ( Britannica .com ) gender identity, an individual’s self-conception as a man or woman or as a boy or a girl or as some combination of man/boy and woman/girl or as someone fluctuating between man/boy and woman/girl or someone outside those categories altogether. It is distinguished from actual biological sex- i-e., male or female. For most persons, gender identity and biological sex correspond conventionally. Some individuals, however, experience little or no connection between sex and gender; among transgender persons.
And because many of us are from the old school, we will definitely have a problem with current social institutions because each gender is supposed to have its facilities and different roles.

Gender identity helps people identify their gender, if they feel otherwise, or to better understand themselves. Society has changed and evolved, and so have the people in it. Gender has always put labels on everything, based on the person’s gender, it’s been that way for the longest. Since our world is becoming more diverse and understanding, we are open to understanding other people’s individual insights towards themselves and respecting them. If they feel like a girl in a boy’s body, then great! We are not letting labels or the “norm” interfere with someone’s growth/identity. A great example of this is the video Baby X Animated short film by Brendan Bradley, in this video, they present a child that doesn’t look too much like a boy or girl. I enjoyed watching this short film, it’s about accepting people as they are and not letting labels identify what you need to like or activities you should do. This understanding of gender can cause conflict because people are not always open to change, change is scary.

Hello professor and class,
The difference between sex and gender is that sex is your biological characteristics or chromosomal features that’s differentiates you from a male or female, gender is the roles of male and female that are expected from society or social groups. For example, ideas about how men and women are expected to behave, dress, and communicate all contribute to gender. Gender is also a social and legal status as girls and boys, men, and women. Gender identity has changed overtime where as back in the times when I was growing up, which lies between the early 90s and 2000s, I don’t recall any huge issues about gender or the way people viewed themselves. Everyone simply identified as their biological sex. I do recall many individuals not being as open with gender identity changes as they are now days. These type of behaviors were kept secret or hidden. With this understanding of sex and gender, many individuals may start to rebell against many guidelines, rules, and regulations presented by institutions or practices. “In science, as our understanding grows, so must the precision of our language in communicating what we know.”(Mazure, C. M.) I believe this statement is true because without the proper knowledge of such issues promotes negative judgments and perspectives.
